summer beers 2014

Well guys, summer is here and it’s time to break out the coolers and fill them with delicious beer. Whether you’re like me and suffer through the summer heat of Phoenix, Arizona, or get to spend the summer somewhere with better weather, beer is always in demand.

So, with the weekend on its way, I decided to put together a list of my 5 favorite summer beers for everyone to enjoy. If you didn’t see your beer on the list, let me know in the comments below! Maybe we’ll try it out on the next episode of Taste Buds!

Full Sail Session

Session has always been one of my all-time favorite beers in general, but it is especially pleasing as a summer brew. It’s lightly sweetened, crisp, and has a grainy taste that’s perfect for a hot summer’s day outside. This beer is perfect right out of the bottle — no need to pour it in a glass in my opinion.

Samuel Adams Summer Ale

I’ve always thought that Samuel Adams was one of the best “mainstream” breweries. Their Summer Ale definitely proves that theory. With a punch of citrus in every taste, this brew is what I want any time I hop in a pool. The Samuel Adams Summer Ale gets knocked by some other beer snobs, but I think it’s  a great drink to pair with a heap of BBQ.

Leinenkugel Sunset Wheat

Now, most people will opt for Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy, but if you want a fruity beer that you can sip on day in, day out, I highly recommend the Sunset Wheat. It almost literally tastes like Fruity Pebbles which, to some, might sound kind of gross but trust me — this beer is magnificent. I recommend drinking this beer as an “in between” beer to drink between your all-day drink. Make it special.

21st Amendment Hell or High Watermelon

First of all, this beer is tough to get your hands on out here in AZ, so when it’s around I buy it in bulk. The best thing about 21st Amendment’s Hell or High Watermelon is that the watermelon/citrus flavors aren’t too overpowering. If you’re looking for something light and not too fruity, I recommend grabbing one of these. Warning: this beer is easy to drink so you might find yourself slamming more than you’d want. Just FYI.

Alaskan Summer

Alaskan Brewing Co. always knocks it out of the park, and the Alaskan Summer Ale is no exception. A little frutiy, a little bitter, and a little matly, this is the summer beer you drink if you’re a beer enthusiast. Alaskan Summer Ale tops the list of my favorite summer beers because it’s just an all-around classic.
