In celebration of the newest season of Game of Thrones, Travel By Brewery writers/people who were still around at 5 o’clock test out some GOT-inspired beer from Ommegang Brewery in New York.

Some things we took away from the two Game of Thrones beer:

Take The Black Stout: This beer was “foamy,” and “robust.” Sam, who is not a “stout guy,” actually enjoyed it. This is not the beer you want to chug (as Sam later found out), and is ideal for warming up your tummy in the cold. The chocolate and caramel in this stout was not too forward, making it smooth all way down.

Fire and Blood Red Ale: The initial sniff test made Mike cough, probably due to the heavy amount of chili. Mike was not a huge fan of this one because it didn’t “taste like your average red ale.” Mike later commented that the beer was “fucking disgusting.” Harsh.

Overall: It seemed as though Ommegang Brewery had some decent beers lined up before HBO came along and ruined them. Neither Sam nor Mike were impressed by the either one of the beers.

Have you tried any of Ommegang’s Game of Thrones beer? What did you think? Have a suggestion for our next Taste Buds? Let us know! In the meantime, don’t forget to check us out on Facebook and Twitter for more beer reviews, festivals, and more!
