The New Belgium Tour de Fat Tempe is arriving October 4th, 2014. One of our favorite craft beer events of the year, this festival packs a ton of zaniness and bicycles into one beautiful autumn afternoon. You don’t want to miss it.
Tour de Fat is not your average beer fest. It’s equal parts bicycle hangout and music festival. There are tons of games to play and interactive attractions like the Frankenstein bike, a monstrous contraption made from vastly different bicycle parts.
Once a year Tour de Fat shuts down parts of Tempe for its annual bicycle parade. Those participating should be advised the event is less a parade and more a crawl – expect to hit some heavy traffic if you’re starting early. Of course, this is a major part of the appeal – rubbing elbows with superheroes, cavemen, animals with towering unicycles and custom horns. Attendees are strongly encouraged to dress the part.
Festival organizers at New Belgium haven’t been shy about extending their catalog of craft beers in recent years. The Lips of Faith series is fully inspired, featuring unique ingredients that create one-of-a-kind sours and other offbeat styles of ale. The New Belgium Shift is one of the most drinkable lagers we’ve encountered in recent history and the most recently recent release, Snapshot, should prove a nice session ale for a lovely afternoon in the park.
